Noninvasive Skin Retexturing

Smoothing fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin surfaces, dermabrasion is a noninvasive treatment performed using a rotary tool that allows patients to experience impactful results after just one treatment session. A similar, but more effective process, than microdermabrasion it removes the outer most surface of the skin revealing a more youthful appearance and glow. It must be performed only by an experienced and trusted physician like Dr. Fodor, in order to minimize possible risks and complications.

What is Dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is a noninvasive cosmetic medical procedure used to drastically improve the skin’s texture after as little as a single treatment. More aggressive than microdermabrasion, when performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon patients can reasonably expect visible reduction in wrinkles and scars and drastic improvement in overall skin texture.

How is a Dermabrasion Performed?

Dermabrasion is performed similar to microdermabrasion but with more aggressive tools and techniques. Your dermabrasion treatment will use rotary diamond and Carborum discs and essentially work in the same way sandpaper does on a piece of wood by wearing away the outer skin surface. Some patients experience mild to moderate levels of discomfort with this treatment, so to avoid this, either local anesthetics and sedatives or a general anesthetic may be administered.

Is Dermabrasion Right For You?

Individuals looking to see drastic results without surgery may opt for dermabrasion treatments by Dr. Fodor. Ideal for drastic improvement of skin texture which may be needed due to scars from acne, accidents, or previous surgeries and those looking to improve the appearance of fine wrinkles such as those around the mouth and sun damage. Dermabrasion is an excellent option for individuals looking for improvement and with reasonable expectations and goals that can’t be achieved through less aggressive exfoliation and microdermabrasion methods.

What Can I Expect After a Dermabrasion?

Considered noninvasive, dermabrasion may still cause bleeding as it contours and reveals skin layers that had previously been hidden. Dermabrasion leaves the treated area with a thick brown crust that will break apart and separate in seven to ten days after treatment. The underlying skin commonly appears reddened and usually requires three to six months to return to a normal hue. During this interval, the area can be covered with cosmetics as desired but must be protected from direct sunlight. Dermabrasion is usually confined to the facial area. The results of a Dermabrasion procedure are limited by the skin’s thickness and the depth of the lesion being “sanded.” Shallow scars or acne pits respond better than deep, narrow, round pits. It is important to discuss your goals and expectations with Dr. Fodor prior to treatment.

How Much Does a Dermabrasion Cost?

As with many treatment options the cost for your dermabrasion treatment session will vary based on a variety of factors. This includes the severity of your case, techniques used for treatment, and other options included in your session that will ultimately help you reach your goals. At your consultation, Dr. Fodor will be happy to discuss your options and cost based on your needs.
