Rhinoplasty
Length of Surgery – Usually one to three hours.
Anesthesia – Local anesthetic with intravenous sedations or general anesthesia. On the cutting edge and preferred by Dr. Fodor is TIVA, which is a combination of the two. It dimishes bleeding and post-operative nausea.
Recovery – Initial to mild discomfort; minimal activity for the first few days; bruising gone in one to two weeks; swelling for several weeks; residual swelling up to 3 months; back to work in 7 to 10 days; avoid strenuous weight lifting activities for 3 to 4 weeks.
Scars – No external scars with closed rhinoplasty.
Nose reshaping, called Rhinoplasty, can modify the bone, cartilage, and soft tissue of your nose to change its appearance in a multitude of ways. Noses can be lengthened, shortened, widened, narrowed, straightened, lifted, and the tip reshaped. Although aging can affect the nose, causing it to droop, most people are unhappy with the appearance of their nose feel that way from quite an early age.
We’ve all heard the expression, “The truth is as plain as the nose on your face.” When it comes to what makes a nose attractive, however, the truth may not be so obvious. That’s because many types of noses – whether long, short, narrow or wide – can be considered attractive. Rather than its particular size or shape, the most important aspect in judging the aesthetics of your nose is whether it fits your face in a complementary way.
A nose that is in harmony with other facial features seems to blend in. One that is not, no matter what is size or shape, can become the central focus of your face and draw attention away from your other attractive features such as expressive eyes or a bright smile. Profound dissatisfaction with a nose that ais clearly out of sync with the rest of the face can negatively affect self-image, emotional development, and psychological well-being.
While rhinoplasty can help you achieve your goals for a more attractive nose, there are some limitations. Just how these apply to you will be determined by the size, shape, and structure of your nose as well as the texture and thickness of your skin. Other factors that will be considered in planning your rhinoplasty are the shape and contour of your face including the angle where the nose meets the forehead and slope of the forehead, and the projection of the chin and lips.
