About the Near Facelift Procedure

Significant results in minimally invasive procedures. Many patients seek out Dr. Fodor to perform full facelift cosmetic surgery. After thorough patient evaluation and based on patients individual goals, medical history, and expectations, alternative and less invasive procedures may be recommended.

The near facelift procedure is a combination of less invasive procedures and treatments aimed at full facial rejuvenation and smoother, more youthful appearance. Dr. Fodor developed the concept of a near facelift after listening to his patients and creating plans to offer the results and improvements they are looking to achieve without the recovery time and invasive surgery that goes along with a full facelift.

A “Near Face Lift” may include any number of procedures such as eyelid rejuvenation, cheek and chin implants, liposuction of the neck, buccal fat pad reduction, nasal reshaping but not a Face Lift per se, performed under the same surgical session. Properly chosen and executed, the collective result in improvement in the facial aesthetics is far in excess of the sum of its parts. A near facelift can delay the need for a full facelift for as long as a decade.

Advanced medical technology combined with the latest surgical techniques allows for less invasive techniques to provide drastic results, and when combined can offer significant rejuvenation that gives the illusion of a facelift.

The Results of Near Facelifts

Patients that choose to have a near facelift are extremely satisfied with the results provided by Dr. Peter Fodor. The primary aesthetic goal is to reduce or eliminate the appearance of drooping or sagging skin, wrinkles, and dimpled skin surfaces. Some patients even opt for endoscopic or mid facelift procedures in combination with fillers to create fresh, taut appearance to the skin surface on the forehead, around the eyes and across the face. The combination you may need will be determined by a number of factors including your goals, current age, condition of your skin, and desired recovery.

The Near Facelift Procedure

Dr. Fodor has extensive experience in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and how different techniques and treatment options can provide significant rejuvenation. As the near facelift procedure is truly a customized combination of procedures it may or may not include creating markings on your face to guide incision lines, implants, and fillers.

Most near facelift procedures use general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, and patients can expect to wake up in recovery and be discharged from the surgery center within a few hours. During more extensive procedures the most conservative approach will be made to minimize incisions, resulting scars, and reduce overall recovery. Extensive procedures may include adding implants to create volume across the face and in key areas such as cheeks and lips. If this is the case in your surgery there may be a need for materials to allow the support necessary to hold the volume you desire. Even the most extensive procedures are performed to allow incisions to be hidden in natural folds, creases and hairlines reducing their visibility.

When multiple procedures are performed your surgeon will take all the necessary steps to ensure your safety and minimize complications from surgery. Upon closing your final incision and placing dressings, you will be moved to a recovery unit. In some cases drainage tubes will be inserted to allow for removal of excess fluid from the incision sites. Possible outcomes will be discussed with your prior to your surgery, but if you have concerns about these potential outcomes it is important to ask the doctor during your consultation.

Recovery From Near Facelift Surgery

In most cases it is recommended to rest for at least two weeks before resuming work or regular activities. Special care should be taken to aid in healing and speed up your recovery. Your face may initially look bruised and swollen, which tends to look worse before it begins to look better. Expect to see new bruises around the face and neck during the first few days after surgery. This is normal, as is swelling that will reduce over time. Dr. Fodor will explain follow up appointments, and help you understand how to change your dressings and provide care instructions. You should expect not to wash or bath fully, including washing your hair, for several days following your procedure. Most of the stitches used to perform your facelift will be self-absorbing and therefore end up dissolving on their own. Remaining stitches may be removed in a week or so depending on how healing progresses.

Depending on the procedures performed, near facelift patients can expect to rest with their heads in an elevated position and not lay flat or on their sides as much as possible for the first few weeks following surgery. It is best to be prepared to avoid lifting heavy objects, traveling, or performing routine tasks during this time as well.

During the healing period it is natural to experience soreness, tenderness, swelling and redness. Dr. Fodor may prescribe pain medications to reduce the temporary discomfort for a few days. Some patients report noticing tighter and smoother facial contours immediately after surgery, even with swelling, but these results may be obscured initially in most cases.

Satisfaction rates with near facelift patients are very high and results are typically long-lasting, though it is important to maintain a steady weight, following a healthy and well-balanced diet, and continuing with routine skin care. As you age you may naturally, lose a bit of the firmness and smoothness originally restored through surgery and full facelifts may be performed traditionally or endoscopically at some point in the future.

Prior to conducting any surgery or procedures Dr. Fodor will have a consultation with you. As a facelift candidate you will have a chance to discuss your cosmetic goals directly with the surgeon.
