What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” KYBELLA® is an FDA approved prescription medicine. It is a nonsurgical minimally invasive treatment.

KYBELLA® is an FDA approved prescription injectable that causes permanent destruction of fat cells. When injected into the subcutaneous fat under the chin the cells in this area will no longer store or accumulate fat. Comprised of a cytolytic agent called deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aides in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat, it essentially causes a natural metabolic response to clear fat from the target area under the chin.

Who should not receive KYBELLA®?

Prescription KYBELLA® is approved for use in adults and under your doctor’s guidance. Patients should not use or receive a KYBELLA® injection if you have an infection in the treatment area.

Is KYBELLA® Right For You?

Dr. Fodor will discuss your treatment options and complete a full consultation before administering KYBELLA® and injecting it into the area below your chin. Before you receive KYBELLA®, a medical history will be taken. It is especially important to discuss all of your medical conditions, including if you: Have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin; have had cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin; have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area; have had or have trouble swallowing; have bleeding problems; are pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Talk with Dr. Fodor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements as they may increase certain risks in patients. Especially tell your healthcare provider if you take a medicine that prevents the clotting of your blood (antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine).

What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA®?

As with most prescriptions and procedures there are possible side effects when injecting KYBELLA®. With an in-depth conversation about your medical history and when provided by a competent and experienced physician like Dr. Fodor these risks are low. Occasionally KYBELLA® is associated with minor side effects such as bruising and swelling which are temporary.
