Buccal Fat Pad Removal

This procedure seeks to give the face a more angular and chiseled look by reducing the size of the buccal fat pad normally located in the cheeks. The buccal fat pad, not unlike the appendix or tonsils, has no useful function after infancy. Buccal fat pad reduction is performed through a small incision inside the cheeks that leaves no visible scar. Dr. Fodor does not recommend total removal because this could lead to a “sunken in” or gaunt appearance. Postoperative swelling and bruising is practically nonexistent. Buccal fat pad reduction results in a more refined, sculpted cheek contour. This surgery is recommend primarily for patients with decidedly round, full cheeks and is not uncommonly performed in combination with cheek enhancement.
